Our intermediate portraiture workshop is the second in a three part series of workshops including beginner, intermediate and advanced. In this workshop we will be engaging simplified forms in order to structure the head, face and features.

Portraiture is a wonderful and intimate form of expression. Join us, as we help get you started by breaking down the process into bite-size morsels. During this workshop, students will develop an understanding of the surface forms and structure of the head, face and features for portraiture, and how to represent it through tonal painting of the live model.

*This course will be primarily focused around painting, but is open to artists working in other mediums.

In this course we will:

  • learn how to see and simplify light and shadow through tonal painting
  • study basic anatomy for portraiture
  • observe demonstrations of painting tonal structure
  • apply your skills through painting the model from life

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for students who have attended our portraiture – beginners workshop, and those who would like to deepen their understanding of tonal structure for their existing portraiture practice.
